New Music

To Help celebrate Canada Day I have added four songs to the Juke Box. They are early recordings from a group called "The Canadian Squires" and "Levon Helm and the Hawks", though there are two names they are the same group and would later resurface later calling themselves "The Band".

My Birthday Greeting To Canada

Today, July 1st is Canada Day. It was this day in 1867 that Queen Victoria proclaimed the Dominion of Canada with John A. McDonald as the first prime minister. I feel rather fortunate and lucky, that when I was a young six year old, my father chose this country as his immigration destination.

Nature has been kind to the geographical part of North America known as Canada, we have an abundance of natural resources, including one third of the planet's fresh water, plus abundant forests, minerals a… Continue

Kickstarting the Community

Bob Sevier a stalwart on multiply and the billboard project left me a comment wondering where everybody in the Billboard project had gone. I realize I have not been active for several months as work and family commitments haven't allowed me the time to spend behind the keyboard as I would like. To try and kickstart some activity I have uploaded four songs from an old vinly album, I ripped into my hard drive, called "The Yorkville Evolution", the album consisted of Toronto bands who were playing… Continue

Chum Chart #363

The last chum chart for February 1964 was published on February 24, and "I Want To Hold Your Hand" remained at number 1. Though they were getting some competition from California sun and surf music. The Rivieras and "California Sun" moved into the number 3 slot from number 8. When you live in Toronto during freezing February, music about California and the sun is sure to be popular.

Eight new songs appeared on the chart this week, including a new Beatles song and a Beatles themed novelty song.… Continue

Another Music Lawsuit

I read the following news story in my paper this morning. My only comment, why am I not surprised.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - More than a dozen recording artists, including the estates of Count Basie and Benny Goodman, sued Universal Music on Friday, saying they had been cheated out of more than $6 million in royalties since 1998.

The artists, many of whom signed with recording companies that were later bought by Universal, sued the world's largest music label for breach of contract and breach of fi… Continue

Hello Ian, I thought you'd gone on a long vacation with all the other Dukeofdiscers. I was feeling so alone on this community site I must admit to nearly pulling the plug.
Where on earth is everyone?

I have been under the weather these last few days, but the chum chart should be updated to reflect March 2, 1964 in the next couple of days.

Hello Ian,
Pleased you enjoyed it. It has always been special for me. Years ago I was looking up pages for this music and I came across a page which played almost the lost then it was cut off. I reported is as I thought there maybe a problem. It was in fact Peter Starstedt who wrote to me. That was a surprise.

Hugs
Paula
