Herbal sleep aids have been available for a long time, but it is only recently that they have become a popular alternative to prescription drugs. It is a shame that many people who do not need pharmaceuticals are still using them when herbal sleep aids are effective, and much safer. Taking prescription sleep aids over a long period of time will inevitably lead to dependency, and when you stop taking them the rebound insomnia can be far worse than it was to begin with. The withdrawal symptoms can be far worse than that, shakes, sweats and other things accompany them; herbal sleep aids of course have none of these withdrawal symptoms, because they do not have addiction and dependency issues to begin with. It is also important to note that herbal sleep aids do not have side effects like daytime drowsiness either, and do not lead to coordination problems or impairment, just good natural sleep.

Ambien, Xanax and Valium are all sleep medicines taken frequently by a nearly uncountable number of people in the world. Valium and Xanax are both sleep medicines designed to treat insomnia by treating the anxiety that causes it. However, they were never designed to be used for long periods of time and even the manufacturers will tell you that. Despite this fact many people continue taking these sleep medicines for sometimes years at a time. This leads to kidney and liver damage in many cases and also easily results in dependence and addiction. When people try to stop taking the sleep medicines they are greeted with a whole host of withdrawal symptoms. There are sleep aids that don't have any of these sorts of problems and can be taken for as long as insomnia persists without the risk of dependency, though they are rarely recommended by doctors. This is because they are herbal medicines and the medical community is slow to accept what has already been used for hundreds of years. Before using a powerful pharmaceutical to get to sleep, try natural sleep medicines

Zolpidem is a more hazardous drug than you may realize, and should never be taken in doses which exceed 10mg per day. Allergic reaction is common to users of Zolpidem, showing itself as rash, hives and sore throat. What's more frightening are reports of hallucinations, memory loss, mood swings, personality changes and general confusion among users of Zolpidem. Generally marketed under the name Ambien, Zolpidem is becoming more and more commonly used in the treatment of insomnia. Though it is quite similar to benzodiazepines like Valium and Xanax it actually does not belong to this family of drugs. Zolpidem can be quite damaging to the liver and kidneys, and is also not recommended for any person with a lung disease. All of this should be discussed with your doctor before taking Zolpidem, but alternatives to Zolpidem for sleep disorders should be considered first.
